Walk through a contemplative space / composition for «vicolo cieco» (blind alley)

«The Italian word schizzo, or sketch in English, can also mean splash – something sputtering with a surprisingly capricious energy (this could light the spark of an epistemic fire…) As in the original meaning of the word, Hofer seeks to leave behind the known context and move towards a poetic infiltration exploring impulses for a walk through a space. His sketches develop and intuitively tap into a visual experiences, record acoustic moods, and make notes on colors, thoughts, and associations with different spaces. In the augmented sketchbook, the combination of various elements creates a density of impressions not possible in conventional note taking.
These sketches are part of Hofer's art projects dealing with walks. New compositions from the basis of a series of soundtracks that are invitations to move into contemplative spaces. The work plays with the listener. Are we in a virtual space or actually walking?

(exhibition text for «The Book Lab», San Francisco / USA) How it works

A camera inside the pen "reads" the sketchbook's pages and stores the pen marks as vectors, some of which are also associated with specific sounds recorded with the pen's microphone. The Information is recalled by tapping on the activated lines in the book. these so-called "pencasts" can also be saved to a computer, making the drawing process available as a short film at any time.
